You have to give it to him, almost within hours of Roland Duchâtelet officially taking over the club our Tony has knocked out a near 1,000 word blog post for the Huffington Post. Not a dickie bird for 3 years, then with his bags packed Tony is thanking all of the supporters for kind messages and emails.
I wonder if the ‘time wasters’ he refers to in the piece includes Peter Varney and Ebbsfleet’s owners KEH, the ‘European’ bid that was suggested by Rick Everitt and others. As many anticipated KEH are more interested in Charlton than they have made out. The Kuwaiti’s would have been a richer backer than Duchâtelet and Varney would have brought the Charlton interest.
I don’t think KEH will go away, they are nicely situated in the wings down the A2, and Duchâtelet strikes me as a man that may well move the club on if it suits his overall business interests especially his network of football clubs.
Jimenez’s piece is as narcissistic as his own biography. I don’t know how many readers that piece will get tucked away on the Huff Post, but as long as he believes his legacy then I suppose that is alright then. No mention of Michael Slater incidentally and of course the man behind the curtain, Kevin Cash.
Huff Post readers will note that Jimenez and Slater have overseen a promotion and that League One title was one for the memory, but many others take greater credit for that than the owners, including a certain Mr Cash, because it was his money that allowed Chris Powell to rebuild the club.
Incidentally Tony, when you took over, Phil Parkinson’s side were 3rd and not 13th, but hey let’s not get the facts in the way of a good story. I’d like to say thank you Michael and Tony, but I just can’t bring myself to.

CA – he also fails, rather importantly, to say why he sold Charlton despite the title of the article. No mention of the five year plan, the Premier ambitions or the dismantling of the loyal Charlton-supporting staff who have run the club on basic wages. I wouldn’t expect him to acknowledge the very vocal majority who have been creating merry-hell for half the time they have been in charge over their arrogant approach to their customers, lack of investment and chaotic state they leave the club in.
I thought the same as Charltonlane CA – the very title isn’t fulfilled in the piece! What an odd man.

And what happened to Steve Kavanagh – am waiting to hear that in court. He was a very decent guy who was running the club on a shoestring and getting Dowie players off wage bill
I think that is why Slater will stay around for a short time. I would expect Duchatelet wants that sorted quick either way, but it will make for an interesting case.
