Whilst last Saturday night I celebrated pretty much on my lonesome (although my passive-other-half did say she was pleased for me), this weekend I partied like it was 1998 along with my brother and fellow Addicks including the groom long into the night in an Irish bar off Las Ramblas in Barcelona and I tell you what, we out sung the very disappointed Barca fans as well!

We had Estrella on draft and Jeff Stelling for company as we sat under the television awaiting updates from The Valley and when it was all over and MK Dons had also done the business, we hugged it out and drank for a very long time.

Of course promotion was the most important thing, the only aim, but those players and their estimable manager deserved a trophy, a medal to hang around their necks and to show their grandchildren. This is a team of winners and rightly will be one of just four teams crowned league champions next month.

There is going to be one hell of a party on May 5th. CHAMPIONS!

Elsewhere: Well, just like last week we got the result elsewhere that we craved. Alan Smith’s first goal for 5 years was enough to beat a Ched Evans-less Sheffield United 1-0. Wednesday got a 95th minute winner to beat Carlisle, whose grip on a play-off place is now by their fingertips only. Huddersfield beat Scunthorpe and Stevenage moved into 6th with a big win over Brentford. The Bees hopes of 6th are now reliant on the three teams above them. One of those Notts County were beaten by Bury at home. At the bottom Rochdale were relegated after two seasons in League One. Chesterfield, Exeter and Walsall all live to fight another day and the O’s threw away a two goal (Kevin Lisbie) lead to still be painfully looking over their shoulders.
