Billy Clarke

Proper football name that. So it’s a yes from me.

The 29-year old playmaker, number 10 they are called these days, became the Addicks’ first summer signing yesterday. An undisclosed fee but said to be six figures, Clarke spent 3 years at Bradford City and played 40 times last season in the Bantams run to the play-off final.

Born in Cork, Clarke has played for Ipswich, Blackpool and Crawley Town as well as an assorted mix of loans. Clarke helped Blackpool reach the Premier League in 2010 but then unfortunately missed the whole campaign due to injuries.

On the face of it a solid signing, and a player who knows about promotion campaigns and hopefully he is the beginning of a completed summer transfer window jigsaw puzzle and not one with half the pieces missing.

Not an out an out goalscorer but a good enabler, and link up man. Welcome Billy.

Dare I say it? At last.

Hopeful this is just the first of a string of incoming, but if this is indicative of where our sights are levelled I’d be happy.

Btw, your link to TOS seems to be dead. I think you were after this one: http://www.cafc.co.uk/news/article/2016-17/charlton-athletic-football-club-new-signing-billy-clarke-3729879.aspx

  2. Thanks James. Link amended.

Yes, to be fair there does seem a fair amount of offers and bids lodged, but unfortunately and not for the first time, KR set unreasonable expectations. However lets hope this is the first of many.

Yes, our hopes have been dashed way too many times before. Just one of the many reasons Addicks are so cynical!

James (Dean) – don’t worry, happens all the time 😉
