Charlton Athletic 4 Bristol Rovers 1
Can we play you every week?
A late Christmas present from our cheeky chappy Scouse Santa which made our festive period pretty decent despite not surprisingly losing our game in hand to Millwall.
It sounded a performance to create a bit of noise at The Valley and unite Addicks, which a run of results will surely do. We did go a goal down but importantly we pulled it back before the break thanks to Josh Magennis’ first of a first ever career hat trick. Magennis has been a flickering candle in a dark first half of the season and two headers and a Yann type 3rd gave him the match ball and much deserving praise.
Karl Robinson gave Joe Aribo his home debut, and he starred in midfield with his own hat trick, three assists. Ezri Konsa lined up alongside Aribo in the centre and Robinson joked that Duchatelet will probably now tell him he doesn’t need a new midfielder. Karl, please don’t give him any ideas. He is probably already wetting himself at the future fee of Aribo.
Magennis’ second was a copy book header before Tex added a third from close range. The Portuguese writing a heartfelt post afterwards to further warm Valley hearts. Then came Magennis finale and it could have been more matching Kevin Nugent’s performance in Bristol a month or so ago.
Robinson omitted Everton bound Lookman again, had Dasilva on the bench and told the press that he is hoping that Brighton midfielder Jake Forster-Carsley will sign this week. He is currently on loan at Rotherham and played on loan for Robinson at MK Dons.
