Will we ever learn?

Charlton have said to bid £380,000 for Standard Leige defender Jorge Teixeira according to Belgium newspaper Le Soir.

The 29 year old from Portugal who came through Sporting’s youth system is available for transfer and the more cynical amongst us would say that Roland needs to pay his old club some money as the Tony Watt transfer fee won’t be initially forthcoming.

Teixeira will be the 4th centre half that the club has signed (under three head coaches) as they attempt to find someone half as good as Michael Morrison!

The Portuguese spent 2 years playing in Cyprus, had a season in Israel for Maccabi Haifa but did spend 4 seasons at FC Zurich in Switzerland’s top division playing for FC Zurich. He joined Standard Liege on a free transfer in the summer of 2014 and played his last 1st team game in early November. He played 10 games under Riga, in his last spell in charge of the Belgians.

Standard Liege. Really?

  1. At least Riga knows Teixeira … but of course that doesn’t mean anything. Standard have recently been quite active in the transfer market so the money will be useful to them. Some (all?) of it going to Sant Truiden, as it happens, who’ve just sold Jean-Luc Dompé (a winger, I think) to Standard. So the money ends up staying in the Duchatelet coffers.

  2. Need to add to my earlier comment. Sint Truiden, the club, isn’t owned by the Duchatelet family, but his wife apparently owns the grounds, so at least has an interest in the financial health of the club.

  3. So knows nothing about Championship football and is not match fit anyway. Sounds about par for the course. These people are so stupid I could scream.

Not what the Dr ordered but I welcome this new centre half as the first, I think we need two. Riga said trust him – he must know this player from his time at the Mothership. 500,000 euros has been mentioned, but don’t we owe Liege Tony Watt’s transfer fee?

    • That is my point Andre. Standard are looking for RD to replenish their coffers after some of his accounting went a bit awry. 380k will do for starters. Or maybe I have a suspicious mind.

It’s not a very big ‘plaster’ to cover the wound after the stupid error of selling Morrison…..

Despite an admission that mistakes have been made and claims they are now trying to rectify them, its the same old bollocks. In truth we need a few hard working journeymen with Championship experience if we to are to avoid relegation.
