I am actually embarrassed for the club with their pitiful attempts to veto a fan demonstration behind the West Stand on Saturday by organising a Family Activity Zone in the car park. What a joke.
Oh well take your kids in November (forecast: rain) to get their face painted and jump on a wet bouncy castle then trudge into The Valley to watch a clown picked by a puppet manage a team of misfits.
The last Family Activity Zone the club did was in August and now suddenly they plan to do it for every weekend home game. If this was a long term plan then why announce it 3 days before the game? Long term plan. Heck look at me. Ooh the irony.
A call for protest should not go unheeded and a lot of people want to make clear their dissatisfaction and utter incredulity at the way the football club is being run by Roland Duchatelet and Katrien Meire. Protest and protest loudly.
However I personally have great hopes for a more strategic and innovative approach, which is a different tactic to demonstrations, chanting or boycotting. Charlton Life have many discussions ongoing about taking action against the owners but one really caught my imagination and it involves the traditional and modern media.
Getting our message out via the press and social media would be much more impactful and effective. It also gives us a co-ordinated and unified approach which would be almost impossible to shut down.
Full page adverts, an online campaign, getting our story into the national and local press, backed up by intelligent counter arguments to Duchatelet’s project will be both a stealth and brazen way to get our resistance across. Taking our message to the Belgium press and media is also something I’d love to see us do. Roland intrigues the Belgium media and a sustained campaign would get good air time and would get us closer to our problem because frankly us screaming at Meire from the car park ain’t going to bother Roly one iota. That is what he is paying her for.
There are plenty of ways to protest and so many of us are hurting that I would encourage any ideas that you may have but a unified bunch of Addicks with a goal, patience and a plan has proved itself before and we can do it again.
