Peterborough United 1 Charlton Athletic 4
That was about as comfortable as you can get as a young Addicks side saw off League One Peterborough to take the Addicks into the 3rd Round. 10 of the 18 players chosen by Guy Luzon were from the academy and Mikhail Kennedy had a fantastic debut scoring after 3 minutes and then winning the penalty that Aherne-Grant dispatched to make it 2-0.
The first half sounded pretty even although we should have been more than a goal ahead at the break. After Ahmed Kashi and Igor came on it sounded as we just moved up a gear and Kashi claimed the goal of the season (in August) lobbing ex-Addick Ben Alnwick from 45 yards before Igor got a confidence boosting 4th on his return from injury.
Peterborough blotted the copy book by pulling one back in injury time, but it was an impressive evening for the Addicks.
I missed the draw, who did we get….

Elsewhere in the League Cup: Birmingham and Middlesbrough came through a couple of banana skins against Gillingham and Burton respectively. MK Dons beat Cardiff in an all Championship affair. Preston were the giant killers beating Premier League new boys Watford 1-0, but Brighton lost at Walsall and QPR were given the biggest bruise losing at home to Carlisle.
