Addicks close in on 6ft 7in Simon Makienok
According to more and more sources including Richard Cawley in the SLP, Charlton are close to pulling off the loan signing of Palermo’s Danish striker Simon Makienok.
The 24-year Makienok scored about a goal every other game during three seasons for Brøndby in his home country which prompted a big chase for him across Europe a year ago. However at Palermo the giant striker struggled for both game time and with the local language and the Serie A side are trying to offload him and it looks as if Charlton are favourites to sign him.
The deal for the full Danish international will be a loan first with Charlton having an option to sign him permanently. If Makienok joins then that has to make him one of the tallest players ever to play for the club and will give Guy Luzon different options up front. Heck, we may even score from a corner!
Makienok will certainly be a signing that may keep players like Johann Berg Gudmundsson at the club, and so would players of the calibre of Michiel Kramer.
Kramer was last season’s 3rd top scorer in the Dutch Eredivisie behind PSV’s Memphis Depay and Luuk de Jong. The 26-year old plays for ADO Den Haag and at 26 is ready to chance his arm in England and JBG would know him pretty well.
Kramer has already turned down Sheffield Wednesday and is said to be travelling to London tomorrow for talks with Charlton and Brentford, although the Bees have cooled their interest as Kramer doesn’t meet their ‘Moneyball’ strategy.
