“Charlton are disappointed to announce that Guy Luzon will not be able to take charge of the team at Watford on Saturday due to issues with his UK work permit.” (more)

You couldn’t make it up could you.

After Guy Luzon took training on Wednesday and Thursday, Ben Roberts and Damian Matthew will now select and prepare the team tomorrow at Watford. Luzon will sit in the stands. Hopefully the club have arranged him a ticket.

With Luzon publicly working this week, as shown in official club videos’, I wonder if Charlton will now face punishment as obviously Luzon wasn’t allowed to work. And we have a qualified corporate lawyer as CEO!!

Heaven help us if his work permit gets turned down. I don’t know what parameters there are for ‘head coaches’ but for non EU players they are very stringent.

Of course the Home Office could be blamed, and no doubt will be, but to announce it at 8pm on a Friday night just about sums up the club’s communication and mismanagement at the moment.

Oh well…. Damian Matthews and Ben Roberts Red & White Army.

  1. I wouldn’t be surprised if this isn’t a ploy by the club to allow him to avoid 2,000 Charlton fans at Watford, after the week we’ve had.

There may be fewer at Wolves.

I would laugh my head off if he’s not granted a work permit!

Is it possible for Kat & Co to make this Circus predicament any more laughable and shameful for our club?? Why they had to lie to the fans in the first place over the big Bob / Luzon fiasco? Why they didn’t just say ‘we’ve sacked Bob and we’re going to replace him with the laughing stock of mighty Belgian & Isreali football’ ..Lying by saying we’re going to have a full and diligent ‘head coach’ selection process, when most fans/the bookies and journalists new it was going to be Luzon at the beginning of last week… Katrien has absolutely no credibility left in my eyes, but, I’m sure Roland thinks she’s doing great….the last time I was this concerned about the strategic management & direction of our club, I was one of 4,000 on a wet Tuesday night at ‘sell out’ park…. Please Katrien, don’t lie to the fans, apologise to and engage with us and please double check your paperwork…! Up the Addicks!!!

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear…..
How on earth can something as basic as this have escaped the attention of the ‘regime’?
Probably because they were so busy trying to pull the wool over our eyes and dreaming up the next ‘porkie pie’….

We must be the laughing stock of the football league – we have now officially taken the title of the league’s basket case away from Cardiff City.

It’ll be the only thing we win this season!

Next we’ll be playing home games at the Whitehall theatre (the home of farce) instead of the Valley…..

Kingshilladdick…you have got it in one. Why start off with a defeat ? and do we really think Luzon will be available for the Wolves match….possibly another defeat . Wouldn’t buy a new car from these people, let alone a second hand one .

‘Just when you thought it was safe to go into the Valley’…….. this farce continues.!
Nor sure how many more mistakes ( I am trying to be kind) I can take.
Spent the morning in the museum, sorting out with the fellow trustees an arrangement with the University of Greenwich and there MA students to upgrade the website, and other social media. Arrive home to this news…….. Sort it out CAFC!

  8. What concerns me is reports of the players being unhappy with the appointment, and unless I’ve missed it, none of the squad has gone on record to say that’s untrue… Worried in singapore.

Perhaps they re read some of the the 20 applicants recieved and actually one of them was Sir Alex Ferguson and now they are reconsidering Guy Luzon ( the work permit is just a smoke screen.)

I don’t believe this uncertainty is likely to be conducive to positive performances on the pitch. If we’re not careful here, we could lose the next two or three and we might then be looking down the barrel of relegation. Oh dear, you couldn’t make it up.

With the squad we have I dont think any manager could turn things around. Going to the Valley now is not enjoyable and leaves me min £50 shy every time. Sick of it tbh.

According to KM we should all be grateful to Roly and we just have to go with what he says….
Well dear Katrien I do NOT like to be beholden to a dictator – be he in North Korea, Syria, Cardiff or the Valley….
According to Katrien we should be grateful that we can sit in a nice shiny re-painted Valley and enjoy the wonderful new pitch. Yep, it’s nice to sit in fresh surroundings and see a decent pitch for the players to use – which, incidentally is a minimum requirement of the football league so it wasn’t largesse that gave us the new pitch, it was necessity.
I do NOT want to watch first division football in such wonderful surroundings – been there and done that thank you very much.

I want to support a club that I can be PROUD of, I want to watch a team worth watching that is competitive and reacts to a manager that knows the league and opponents well and knows what he is doing.
The problem that the last 3 managers have had is that they are not given the resources to get the players in that they need. I fully support the view of bringing on the kids in the Academy, but that has to be balanced with experience within the squad, something that is lacking apart from one or two individuals.

Last January we ‘lost’ Yann the Man – this January we have ‘lost’ Morrison, we are light in certain positions and we need players who know the division in which they are playing.
IF I wanted to watch a Belgian club I’d go to Belgium…… I want to watch a Charlton team that shows passion, skill and fight – something that I’ve only seen in odd flashes this season.
Of all the players that you have ‘imported’ from your other clubs in the last year only 2 or 3 have actually shown that they are up to the challenge of Championship football.

IF the Chairman continues to show contempt to both the fans and the ethos of the club I will be joining the droves away from the Valley. I travel a round trip of 280 miles to attend home games when I can afford the time and money to do so – I have supported the club through thick and thin (mostly thin, sadly…..) for 50 years ….. but the present regime is one of the worst that I have seen running the club in that time.

Roland – do the job that needs to be done. Look around you . Listen to those around you. Look at the other clubs who are run by dictatorial Chairman who try to impose their will on their club (ie Cardiff City) and see the mess that they are in.
Show some humility, understand what you have bought into and build into that. You cannot make Charlton into Standard Liege lite…….
Stop moving players and managers around your ’empire’ like pieces on a chess-board

I want to join you on your ‘journey’, but only if that is going in the right direction….. The road to the Premiership is long and hard, you will only get there by building the club up slowly, piece by piece with continuity – it took Curbs several years to get a squad together to get promotion back in the late 90’s. Sadly at the moment the only way that I can see us going is down, to division 1 and perhaps down into division 2 for the first time.
IF you insist on doing things your own way then please cut your losses, sell up and return to Belgium and leave the remnants of OUR football club behind for someone else to pick up the pieces and give us a club to be proud of once again. At the moment you are making us the laughing stock of English football…

I don’t want to sit in the best ground in division 1 or 2 to watch football – and I won’t.

Insipid, inept, clueless, no class, no fight, no spirit……
Was that the press conference announcing the arrival of our new manager or the performance on the pitch at Watford today?

From what I’ve seen this week and heard today it was a bit of both.
One of the few players to come out of the game with any credit was Etherington, although he was beaten five time (how many of those were caused by inept defending?) he saved at least three more certain goals with fine saves.

In all of this debacle one group have been sacrosanct from adverse comment this week – the players.
This was their occasion to step up to the plate and make a statement …. they failed to do so. They could at least have put on a show for the 2000 Charlton supporters who cheered them on throughout the game, but they didn’t.

It is clear that the malaise at the club has gone from the top right through to what happens on the pitch.
Week by week the safety net of points accumulated in the first half of the season is being whittled away – crisis, what crisis? Well, it’s a crisis that creeps up on the complacent …. it’s called Relegation. Do you hear that Roland? Not that you care of course, you’ll just go off and concentrate on another of the clubs in your empire and leave the Addicks to rot in division 1 or 2.

I cannot for the life of me see how the rot is going to be stopped….. Clearly there is no support for the new manager in the dressing room, Roland should take the hint and review his ‘work’ of the last week and back-track very quickly indeed.
He won’t do so of course, because he’s the Chairman, he owns the club and he’s always right…… isn’t he Katrien?

By the time we play Rotherham the Valley will be a very gloomy place indeed…..

I’d like to know what Roland Duchatelet is thinking right now MC !!

    January 17, 2015
  19. Mike #

    Sam – he’s probably thinking ……

“Everything will be fine when I get Guy in next week, he’ll get us 3 points at Wolves and everyone will be happy…..”

If only it was that easy….

What frightens me more than anything – if the rumours are to be believed – is that the players sent a representation into the management team asking for the employment of an English manager to take charge of them. That takes bottle. It shows that the players care and they want someone to be in charge who knows the league that they are playing in and the ethos of English football.
Their concerns were obviously rebuffed – clearly the owner cares not what the fans or his players think.

The performance on the pitch today at Watford said it all …. It said ‘ we know what the problem is, we’ve made our views known but the guy in charge doesn’t give a XXXX’ – and the heads, and the performance, went down.

We ALL know what the problem is – but the man at the top simply won’t listen.
