All Blacks win Rugby Classic
After watching the All Blacks comfortably beat a fancied Argentina in the semi-final on Thursday they looked like they had a bit more in the tank than the Classic Lions who outpointed South Africa in a blood and thunder tussle the night before, and so it proved as New Zealand beat the Lions 17-3 in last night’s final to take the 2014 Bermuda Rugby Classic.
Rugby week was it’s regular fun with it’s regular weather. I was there both Wednesday and Thursday and got wet inside and out, if you get my drift.
However watching these blokes at close quarters is the best bit. They give it everything and it is obvious that the players weren’t just here for the beer, but there was a lot of pride at stake.
During the Springboks v Lions game four players (two from each side) were banished to the sin bin for fighting. To then see the four of them come off with steam coming out their ears but then turn to each other and smile makes the Rugby Classic more than just a night out for the spectators.
Big crowds, I would estimate around 3-4,000 attend each night although the Saturday finals night is the most well attended.
My rugby week experience was heightened on Friday night when the other half and I went out with a big group of friends and were joined by a couple of the Lions players. Friends of ours knew them and were putting them up and can those boys drink!
