Guy Luzon to remain in network
As expected Standard’s Guy Luzon stood down as head coach this morning after the debacle of yesterday. Standard sit in the bottom half of the Jupiler League 3 points above the relegation zone. Remember Standard fans have the expectations of a Man Utd fan.
Interesting that the official Standard announcement said “Luzon is no longer head coach of Standard, but will remain active inside the network of partner clubs.” Quite what that means I am unsure.
Luzon’s assistant Ivan Vukomanovic takes temporarily charge of the 1st team, but if such a situation can happen Luzon has impressed Duchaletet sufficiently to not only sack him but to want to work with him again. Similar to Jose Riga.
According to local reports former Genk manager Mario Been, ex Standard legend Guy Hellers, Sint-Truiden manager Yannick Ferrera and a certain Bob Peeters are favourites to replace Luzon.
Like Peeters, Ferrera has had a very good start to the season with Sint-Truiden, they lie 2nd in the Belgian 2nd Division and the question needs to be considered…. would Duchâtelet be brazen enough to move either Peeters or Ferrera to Standard?
Closer to home Birmingham City handed Lee Clark his P45 this afternoon. Not a real surprise but until Saturday’s defeat at home to Bolton, City I thought had picked it up but their home form in particular has been desperate for a long time.
