Big school

My little girl, not so long a baby so tiny that she could slip through your fingers starts ‘big school’ today.

Almost 5-years old she starts Primary school at Bermuda High School (BHS) today, and watching her last night help lay her school uniform out and runaround in her new school shoes bought a lump to my throat. Where did that time go?

Almost 5 years ago, Phil Parkinson was trying to lead us back to The Championship as the Addicks competed in their first 3rd Division season for 29 years. Seems like an eternity ago doesn’t it when put like that?

Bermuda High School is the only all girl school on the island and runs from years 1 to 11. Although we liked the idea of an all-girl school, even at this age, it was also we thought simply the best school we visited.

My little girl approaches everything with confidence and steely determination, unlike her father who cried his eyes out on his first day at Primary and chased his own mother out into the playground.

Good luck to any other parents who had a lump in their throats this week taking their ‘babies’ to their first day at ‘big school’.

I don’t belive it CA! It only seems like 5 minutes ago you announced her birth!

I wish her all the very best.

I drove my little girl to school last Wednesday as she was weighed down with stuff – she’s in the same age group class as your daughter CA. Oh one difference though – she’s the teacher! You are most certainly right about time though.

I sometimes think of a little bit of advice I was offered years ago. ‘You do not own your children, they are only lent to you – make the most of it’.

Best wishes for her big day.

Hope all went well, CA. My “little” girls are now 14 and 17 and I really am wondering where that time’s gone!

  5. Just wait until you see her as a bacofoil wing wearing angel or a tea towel sporting shepherd at Christmas nativity!
I’ve seen hard as nails dads turn to whimpering wrecks at the emotion of it all.
    Good luck to you all
