Reza Ghoochannejhad gone?

Unsubstantiated rumours are building on whether Roland Duchâtelet has sold World Cup star Reza Ghoochannejhad. The club said that Reza was to meet up with the squad in Spain after an extended break following Iran’s World Cup exit. However he wasn’t in Spain and now all Addick eyes will be on Sparrows Lane tomorrow to see if he starts pre-season with Charlton or in fact has been moved on.

Reza signed a two and a half year contract in January, but struggled with the pace and physicality of The Championship despite some obvious skill and talent. He started just 10 games, 7 in which he was substituted and scored just once, albeit it was this cracking and decisive goal at Elland Road in April.

With reports that PSG’s Jean-Christophe Bahebeck is still very much on Peeters’ shopping list, and with a bid already turned down it looks as if the head coach is actively attempting to replace Reza, and Bahebeck is a very similar player, although with a build much more suited to The Championship.

I would be disappointed not to see Reza in a Charlton shirt again, especially when you have to believe that the Iranian would be brimming with confidence after his performances in Brazil. A second season and a pre-season would I think see us get a much more decisive and better player, and Peeters said he was looking forward to working with him.

Some stories link Reza with a move to the Middle East, cynics would say that Duchâtelet is cashing in on Reza’s sudden prominence, or of course it could just be the age old concerns over home sickness and not being a first-teamer. I wouldn’t expect however the signing of Israeli Tal Ben Haim to be a factor.

A move to another network club does seem unlikely, but these stories all make you realize that the club does control very carefully what media is distributed publicly. For example the club have yet to announce Piotr Parzyszek’s loan move to St-Truiden, already broadcast on STVV’s website. All the more strange after the Official Site, rightfully, espoused Reza’s World Cup appearance.

Like a lot of things at the club, we’ll wait and see.

  1. I’ll be glad not to see that waste of space in a Charlton shirt again . I’ve watched him in all the home games and he did nothing whatsoever . There’s plenty of more talented players who’ve been signed and look capable of scoring which is something he didn’t look like.

  2. Plenty of more talented players (from Standard Liege) who haven’t played in the World Cup Finals….
