It doesn’t answer why it took almost a week, but we have to move on and Peeters will be judged over a season, although so much work needs to be done between now and August 9th, that a judgement call will be made before the season kicks off whether the club or Peeters like it or not.
The opening interview was as to be expected, and we learnt that he has been offered a one-year contract, more likely due to Duchâtelet’s aversion to paying compensation, which is fair enough.
Not surprisingly Peeters talks of his wishes to develop young players, and as we had heard previously his wish to play a passing game, apparently with two wide men.
Damien Matthew gets name-checked but no mention of any other coaches joining Peeters although I understand goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts has signed a contract extension.
Peeters talks up his knowledge of The Championship, but he will still need to be a quick learner like Riga and vitally stated that he is currently busy on recruitment: “We are going to bring in players who know what it takes to play at a very hard level with a lot of good teams.”
Welcome Bob, no time to waste, let’s get this car on the road.
