Poyet voted Player of the Year

Despite playing only 20 games and making his debut in January, the 19-year old born in Zaragoza was tonight named Charlton supporter’s 2013/14 Player of the Year.

Lawrie Wilson, who got my vote, was 2nd and Michael Morrison 3rd. Jordan Cousins, a year older than Poyet, won the Young Player of the Year. Cousins made his debut back in August and the two awards are testimony to the latest current crop of outstanding Academy players.

Poyet is the youngest ever player to win Charlton’s Player of the Year. Richie Bowman was 20 and Chris Solly 21, when they were won it in 1975 and 2012 respectively. Without doing the research I would wager no player has won previously playing as few a games as Diego.

It’s been a good week for the Poyet family, I hope now that Diego makes the decision best for his burgeoning career and give himself the best chances of retaining his Player of the Year trophy by signing a new contract at The Valley.

It is beyond doubt that Diego is going to have a sparkling career in the game, but let us enjoy each other for a little longer yet.

News also tonight that Danny Green has left the club.

Very lucky to be there last night CA (my first and would heartily recommend to any fan) and even more lucky to have Morgan Fox on our table. A very articulate young man who has opinions and prepared to back them with a good case, yet polite, diplomatic and charm itself. He said Diego was staying, and was very nervous about last night’s event, as came across in his acceptance speech; but that I think shows a pleasant degree of modesty. Morgan felt that Academy players fitted in well with Jose’ s team as they have played a good passing game at u21 level.

No wonder Roland was sold on our Academy!

all in all there is much to be optimistic about. Just hope Jose will still be at helm next season – something he didn’t seem very confident about last night..

Jose didn’t seem confident CA – perhaps I should rephrase it and say he just didn’t know.
