Investment in the pitch and players
Good news week at The Valley with news of plans for the installation of a new playing surface and new contracts to two more academy graduates Morgan Fox and Dillon Phillips.
The replacement of the very sorry looking Valley pitch will begin on May 19th and the work will take 7 weeks. I expect another pre-season mostly away from home, rumoured not surprisingly to include a trip to Belgium.
The new pitch will include undersoil heating and 3G to the pitch perimeter and technical areas.
Today the club also announced extended contracts for Welsh left back Morgan Fox (photo), who has signed until the summer of 2017 and 18-year old goalkeeper Dillon Phillips, who has been on the bench a number of times this season.
Fox has impressed in Rhoys Wiggins absence and this move signals the end of the line for Cedric Evina.
Harry Lennon has already signed a contract to 2016 and with fellow centre-half Catford-born Joe Gomez earning rave reviews in the U21’s this season, the future of the Addicks defence looks very exciting indeed.
Addicks meanwhile wait on Diego Poyet, who has twice been offered a contract, but is said to want to wait until the end of the season, for which he can’t really be blamed. Let’s hope with him pulling the strings Charlton get a bit closer to having more bargaining power tomorrow afternoon.
