We go together

Tuesday night, and another Addicks game under the lights.

There are big games, there are massive games and there are huge games. All of those boxes are ticked tomorrow as we look to put a glimmer of light between us and the noise below us.

Whilst tinkering with his playmakers and strikers, José Riga has left his line of defenders alone, unless changes were enforced by injury. Nonetheless tomorrow we are left to speculate whether current player of the year Chris Solly will start at right back, allowing Lawrie Wilson to push further forward to what I think has been a troublesome right side of midfield for us.

Once we get that far forward it has been difficult to read Riga’s mind as to his intentions, but for me Wilson has been one of this season’s few highlights and his exuberance and fearlessness gives us more dynamism going forward.

My son and I will make our way up from the South Downs tomorrow afternoon and we’ll meet up with my brother and a number of mates a couple of hours before kick off for a little something to calm some pre-match nerves

I watched Steven Gerrard give a tearful rallying call yesterday to his team mates, our leader I am sure was watching. As Gerrard said, we go together.

We were round at a mate’s house to watch the Liverpool game at 6.20am and anyone who loves the game (I excuse Man Utd fans) could not have failed to be moved by the occasion. I remember at Charlton rising with the stadium as we applauded Michael Owen’s substitution after Liverpool stuffed us with two goals. The genuine appreciation of a craftsman at work. Remember the Anfield crowd applauding the Addicks off after a 2-2 draw They play some beautiful, if fallible football at Anfield and it is odd to think of them as a neutral’s team but I think they are.
