Call for Clarke

With Ricardo Fuller out for an undetermined amount of time, the name of Leon Clarke has been floated again amongst Addicks. Mind you it is probably the first time the names of Fuller and Clarke have been mentioned in the same sentence.

Clarke has scored close to 20 goals on loan at Chesterfield, Swindon and Scunthorpe in about a year but Swindon fans yesterday made it clear their feelings to their ex-player who returned to the County Ground for the first time and during his stay in SE7 Addicks were none too impressed either.

Personally I don’t think he was given a chance but Powell was never keen on the striker signed as a makeweight in the Paul Benson deal. Prior to his Swindon nightmare he struggled to score goals in The Championship with Sheffield Wednesday, QPR and Preston and 14 clubs for the 27-year old since he made his Wolves debut 9 years ago might say more about him than his various employers.

One of the Sunday’s said that we are in the loan market again looking at QPR’s Ephraim Hogan. Palace were mentioned as another suitor, although they have may have other concerns this week as they try to keep hold of Dougie Freedman.

CA – much as I would welcome any disruption to Palace’s unexpectedly good start, why would Dougie Freedman be considering a move to Bolton? `they are 12 places and 6 points behind Palace and it’s grim up north. I would be far more surprised if he went than stayed….

    • Well looks like he’s off. I would expect Bolton could make a big difference to Freedman’s earnings. He will inherite a better squad and an infracstructure in a different world. It may be grim up north but compared to Selhurst Park….

It does make you wonder why we signed him.
